Inter-relativity in the liminal.
an archive of observation.
This is a documentation of my observations throughout my graduation time.
A series of photos can be found as documentation of often feeling thought and feelings from given moments of inspection. All in search of depicting inter-relativity in the liminal space. Whereby an objects' relations to a subject (or another object) shapes the space in existence. This website attempts to capture the abstract nature and aallows for the exploration of an interr-elative experience in the liminal.

I thought it was very interesting how if you trace your eyes from the top of the corner of the room to the bottom, the indented edge almost becomes one with the wall as the
shadow fades from it and the natural light bouncing off
the walls conceal it.
Nature will always intervean - no matter how we try to conceal and 'nature-proof' spaces, what was once there can not be erased.

This building had pilings of leaves and flowers covering the top of the roof with
their remains. Water has also made its
way through the carefully constructed
walls by altering their color and texture.

These are observations of negative space and light which I tried to capture. I noticed a shadow or rather an inverted shadow that a plant stand in my room was casting on the ground as I was trying to figure out how to draw negative spaces. Reflecting on this now I am glad I captured this process because I realized that rather then me drawing negative space, there was also already a 'drawing' there.
I just had to see and relate differently to my surroundings.

"Do you see the rock?" I asked my partner as we were sitting on a bench seated between the middle of these two trees by a lake. It took us both a while to notice. I wondered how intentional the placement was. I also wondered how intentional is the placement of everything within the grounds of the museum. Where is the line where you let nature be nature, and where is the line of man-made/artificially constructed within the frame of this picture.

As I was trying to trace further shadows I came across something very frustrating, however enlightening. As I placed my hand carefully between the plant and paper I noticed that my and would cast an interfering shadow that of the plants. Through this interaction I was not able to accurately trace and sketch the plant, therefore I had to rely on memory for most of the drawing process. I felt like I did not do justice to he shadow of the plant since I could not get an acurate sketch of it.

An article I came across during a researching phase. I like the word 'hidden territories' - I though it really resonated with my topic of liminal spaces.

Looking at these lamp shades around my room I began to question light and negative spaces. After experimenting and sketching shadows I began to wonder if light can be held or captured. In these photographs I observed the way light is shaped and pondered if light can be used as a material to sculpt. With these ideas I came to the conclusion that I do not want to portray 'inter-relativity' or 'liminality' in my work rather I would like my work to capture the essence of exploring these topics.

During this reflection time I realized that I might not have been making to capture something rather to explore - my method was to understand inter-relativity and these relations not necessarily to portray.
